HUBINGER
ST. (hue-bin-jer) is an
independent, Southern Connecticut based band loaded with endless energy,
fun, and improvisational bravado. The band's performances often include
unexpected variations of their originals, and unique sometimes twisted
versions of cover tunes. Individual and collective spontaneous bursts of
surrealism keep HUBINGER ST. shows fresh. "The group revels in
improvisation. Their live shows feature dynamic jams that often invoke
other dynamic jam bands, while producing inventive tones and textures all
their own.", states Dean Budnick in his book JAM BANDS. The band loves to
jam, but also enjoys the craft of writing a good song. Blues, funk,
reggae, jazz, bluegrass, and of course Rock-n-Roll all influence the bands
song writing and are all elements of the Hubinger St. sound.
What started out as an acoustic duo of Matt Miklus and Casey Gorman in 1994 quickly evolved into a jamming rock-n-roll quartet. Hubinger St. was formed and has been playing the club circuit since 1995. The spring of 1996 saw the release of their first full length studio CD, "Elasticstarch". In 1998, the band released their second CD, "Little Solder Boys". These recordings received positive reviews in local and national publications as well as from the supporting audience that was rapidly growing. Relix Magazine said: "Listening to Elasticstarch is quite exhilarating... there's a sense of good karma and spirit to it's music." (Oct. 96 Vol. 23, No. 5) "Little Solder Boys...like it's predecessor is laced with classy improvisational rock."(August 99, Vol.26, No. 4) At the start of the new millennium the band experienced their first personnel change as they said farewell to drummer Greg DeBlasio and welcomed Rob Bonnaccorso aboard. With some new blood and energy the band became even more active sharing their live music performances throughout the North East as well as composing and recording for their next studio release. The Revolving Door Music Guide in Syracuse, NY said: "These guy's soar!...I am more of an obtuse jazzbo, and complexity is what I seek. And these guys have it"(Herbie One / The Revolving Door / November 2000) The bands individual and collective musicianship was evolving as they were constantly traveling and performing. They also shared many great experiences along the way at such events and venues as The Gathering of the Vibes, The Berkshire Mountain Fest., The Jones Fest., The Oakdale Theater (CT), Toad's Place (CT), The Charles I’ve Center (CT), The Middle East (MA), The Iron Horse (NH),Tammany Hall (NH), The Haunt (NY), The Wetlands (NY), The Stone Coast Brewery(ME) and are grateful to have shared the stage with such local and national music greats as: The Smokin' Opey Band, JGB, Govt. Mule, Steve Morse, Deep Banana Blackout, Gordon Stone, Max Creek, Fro, Lynryd Skynyrd, Leslie West, Matt Guitar Murphy, Andrew Gromiller, The George Lesiw Band, and many, many more. As the year 2001 came to an end the band became much less active as bassist Bob Csugie parted ways to pursue other things in life. The band all pursued other music projects and enjoyed only an occasional Hubinger St. show until 2004 when bassist John Whaley joined the band and Hubinger St. was back on the scene. In the early winter of 2006 the first recordings of this current lineup were documented at the Star Cafe in Devon, CT. These recordings are the start of what is to be the bands next CD release sometime in 2007. The band is back in action with new original material and arrangements for bone shaking fun throughout the North East and hopefully beyond. Look for them in your town! At this point the band has only one goal... To keep on ROCKING! For further information or bookings, contact: mattymiklus@aol.com
